5-hunt.jpg (17439 bytes) At Possum Network we encourage "Possum Hunting on the Internet".

But  Possum Hunting has a history as a popular pastime. Here see see some possum pelts, and some raccoon pelts also.

Opossum pelts used to be valuable to hunters and trappers. Here is a shipping tag to accompany the pelts mailed to this turn of the century "Fur House." You'd bundle the pelts together, and then indicate how many of each you were sending. Twenty muskrat, 12 mink, and some possums.

It was a big business. The companies would even sell special bottles of animal scent so you could help matters along. You could buy bottles of opossum scent, bear scent, otter scent, even ring tail scent. $1.00/bottle, 3 bottles for $2.50.

The postcard was issued with various captions. Once it was captioned "De 'Possum Hunt "Caught" and formed part of a series of postcards. You can see it's companion "De 'Possum Hunt "Treed" at Possum Network also. And some postcards have the caption Possum For Yo' Breakfast.

Does the picture look different depending on the words that go with it? You might want to examine how words and pictures often work together in  hurtful ways.
